The town of Die is the birthplace of the "Clairette" sparkling wine. Nestling on the banks of the Drôme river, the town is at the foot of the Glandasse Cliffs (2040m), at the southern end of the Vercors mountain range.
Die's location makes it an ideal starting point for many leisure and sporting activities.
The historic centre of Die is well worth a visit, with its roman remains and numerous historic monuments.
On Wednesday and Saturday mornings during the summer, the local market brings the colours and scents of Provence to the market place.

Hiking and nature trails in all seasons :

Hiking and nature walks throughout the region are ideal at any time of the year, with a number of different trails leaving from the town centre.
The Diois is a hikers paradise, with well marked trails to suit all tastes, from leisurely strolls through vineyards and woodland, to longer excursions such as the hike to the top of the Glandasse, 1600m above Die (all the relevant hiking maps are at your disposal). We would be more than happy to point you to some of the most beautiful paths in the region.

For nature lovers, there's plenty to see all year round: ibex, chamois, royal eagles, vultures, beavers and a fabulous range of flora to be discovered in the surrounding hills.

The Diois is a perfect area to discover by bike with miles of mountain bike trails and quiet country lanes. We would be more than happy to point you towards some of the best routes the region has to offer.

Numerous other activities are on offer such as rock climbing, mountaineering, via ferrata, caving, hang-gliding, horse and donkey riding, etc.

Winter on the high plateau of the Vercors :

The Vercors Plateau is mountainous with heavy snowfall in winter in places such as the Vallon de Combeau (photo).
You can discover the wild high plateau of the Vercors on foot, by snowshoe or cross country skiing.
Alpine skiing at the Col du Rousset resort is only 20km away from Die.

Watersports and swimming during the summer months :

The numerous rivers are ideal for swimming and water sports, and there are swimming pools in Die, Châtillon-en-Diois and Luc-en-Diois.

You can descend the Drome river by canoe or kayak and there are several superb spots for canyoning in the area.

There are also hidden gems to be discovered by those who are adventurous enough to seek them.

Visits :

Far from the major chateau's and their crowds, the Diois's historic heritage is for those who prefer a more relaxed, curious approach. You'll find country roads carved into the rockface leading to historic villages, and you can visit the roman town of Die with its cathedral and Cistercian abbey at Valcroissant. A bit further afield you can discover the legendary routes of the Vercors or visit the resistance memorial.
